AB Participant of the Week: March 2

Meet Taylor Cady!

Year: Senior

Major: Community Health, minor in Sociology

We asked Taylor to answer some questions for us about why she decided to participate in Alternative Breaks and what she loves most about it. So here are her answers!

Which Alternative Break(s) have you previously participated in?

Playworks Winter 2015

What is your favorite thing about Alternative Breaks?

My favorite part is that we are put with people that we might have never met if it wasn’t for the alternative break. We start off as strangers and by the end of the week it’s like we’ve known each other for years.

What was your favorite thing you learned from Alternative Breaks?

It reinforced that volunteering isn’t always about what you can give to other people. Rather, it’s about what you can learn from them. In this case, it gave me a whole new perspective on recess and it’s importance both inside and outside of the classroom.

What is your favorite memory from Alternative Breaks?

We were able to do a lot of exploring in our free time when we weren’t at our elementary schools. Because of this, we were able to all experience new things together such as driving through the mountains for the first time, losing the keys at red rocks amphitheater and attempting to ice skate at an old fashioned ice skating rink, just to name a few.

What is a random fact about yourself?

I am deathly afraid of fires after almost setting Ellsworth on fire freshman year from burning toast. (I guess you're not supposed to have toaster for this reason....)

If what Taylor has said makes you want to serve, learn, and grow with us, you can apply for an Alternative Summer Break on our website http://www.kuab.org/summer-breaks!
