AB Participant of the Week: February 27

Meet Tho Nguyen!

Year: Senior

Major: Biochemistry

We asked Tho to answer some questions for us about why she decided to participate in Alternative Breaks and what she loves most about it. So here are her answers.

Which Alternative Break(s) have you previously participated in?
I went to Denver, CO for Playworks and Memphis, TN for Alzheimer’s Daily Service.

What is your favorite thing about Alternative Breaks?
Alternative breaks are great because they combine three of my favorite things into one week: travel, volunteer, and meet new people!

What was your favorite thing you learned from Alternative Breaks?
I learned to not be afraid at making conversations with strangers. Everyone’s life stories are so different, you can learn a new thing or two.

What is your favorite memory from Alternative Breaks?
My favorite memory when I went to Denver was when we hiked these incredible rock formations in the Garden of the Gods, the view was breathtaking. As for when I was in Memphis, my favorite moment was when we were playing cards and all of a sudden a cockroach appeared out of nowhere and scared the living daylights out of some people.

What is a random fact about yourself?
I have never been to K-State so I’m very curious as to what their campus is like.
