Meet Abby Poppert!

Year: Junior

Major: Community Health

We asked Abby to answer some questions for us about why she decided to participate in Alternative Breaks and what she loves most about it. So here are her answers.

Which Alternative Break(s) have you previously participated in?
Gwen’s Girls in Pittsburgh, PA

What is your favorite thing about Alternative Breaks?
My favorite part was meeting new people that I would have never become friends with if it weren’t for alternative breaks and getting to travel somewhere new.

What was your favorite thing you learned from Alternative Breaks?
Gwen’s Girls in a non-profit that specializes in women’s rights and empowering girls, so I think the coolest thing I learned was how to work with these young girls and how to inspire them to reach their full potentials.

What is your favorite memory from Alternative Breaks?
My favorite memory from alternative break was one of the days we made vision boards with the young girls we were working with. I loved seeing what things they chose to put on their boards and what was inspiring to them. One girl cut out a smiling mouth from a toothpaste ad and when I asked her why she chose to put that on her board she just smiled and told me she liked “fresh teeth”. I thought that was pretty funny and cute.

What is a random fact about you?
I can say the ABC’s backwards really fast.
