AB Participant of the Week: March 6

Meet Yusra Nabi!

Year: Sophomore

Major: Journalism and Political Science

We asked Yusra to answer some questions for us about why she decided to participate in Alternative Breaks and what she loves most about it. So here are her answers.

Which Alternative Break(s) have you previously participated in?
St. Bernard Project.

What is your favorite thing about Alternative Breaks?
My favorite thing about alternative break was going to New Orleans and meeting new people, especially those who were affected by the disaster. I loved listening to their stories and trying understand their hardship.

What was your favorite thing you learned from Alternative Breaks?
You can never fully understand what other people go through, unless you face the same obstacles in your life. The best we can do is try to empathize, serve, and help ease their pain.

What is your favorite memory from Alternative Breaks?
Meeting Margaret. Her house was destroyed by the hurricane and we helped built parts of it. It was great getting the chance to actually meet her. She was appreciative and full of love.

What is a random fact about yourself?
I’m bilingual! I’m fluent in English and Bangla.
